-道教是一個成熟的內涵極其豐富的古老宗教。她有著非常系統的信仰體系。這一體系，常被稱之為教理教義，它與西方所謂的神學，約略相當。具體說來，包括對道的信仰，以及由此而形成的關於宇宙、關於萬物生成運動的原因的學說；對神仙的信仰；對人類社會的理想；對人生價值的主張；等等。每一項又都可以細分為若干方面，由此相互聯結，構成完整的體系。由於歷史變遷，不同時代道風有異，也由於道派的不同，所以對於自己信仰中的具體內涵的理解和論證，各道教理論家、領導人，也都有一些差異。不過在上述最基本的內容上，道門人士的看法仍是一致的。我們在敘述中，主要介紹那些一致的方面，必要時也說一點具有代表性的獨特觀點。
